You may be tempted to ask well, why does this site exist anyway:
THE ANSWER IN A WORD or
twenty: to help other lovers of visual objects who can also see the
divine spirit in the works of the old and new masters and who want to learn
a little more- kind of a brief summary of how and why this great period
in the history of the arts and sciences came to be- how one thing inevitably
led to another thing always getting greater and greater till we wind up
looking at Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Gris, Duchamp, Picabia, Mondrian,
and the fifty or more masters of the highest possible rank, that make up
early modern art. This set of painters meanwhile, by 1920 or so were to
give rise to virtually everything that follows up to the present moment.
Also we want to show how
the founders of modern art (or if you must- the post impressionists, whatever
the hell that means anyway), came to lay the foundations in their works
for the painters mentioned above. First we must start with Cezanne who
was always considered their master by painters from Picasso, Braque, Matisse
and on and on to basically every painter mentioned here. If you scroll
down a little bit you will see an example of a typical masterwork Pierrot
and Harlequin( Mardi Gras ) by Cezanne which can now be seen in the famous
Puskin Museum in Moscow. One should be aware that specific details as well
as the entire form and color of this and hundreds of other Cezanne masterpieces
led to the creation of the century's or ( perhaps it is really of all visual
art history's? foremost art movement), Cubism (Picasso, Braque, Leger,
Delauney, Gris, Duchamp) as well as a number of others) as well as serving
as the direct guide to Fauvism the centuries' second greatest movement
(Matisse, Braque, Vlaminck, Derain, Dufy, etc.]
